Breakfast
We know that this depends very much on personal circumstances. Nevertheless, we were able to identify some patterns. Breakfast is the most frequently consumed meal on its own, which is also usually the case for complete food meals. This makes it a prime candidate for a replacement.
It is also one of the main meals that is more often skipped out of haste or consumed on the way to work. After all, many people have a routine that includes the same breakfast every day, often a high-sugar cereal. So it's not surprising that the Complete Food survey from 2018 shows that breakfast is most often replaced by drinking meals.
Eating out
The second best opportunity for astronaut food is eating out. Restaurants, takeaways and canteens often offer relatively unhealthy food. The result is a poorer nutritional composition than we would like. The high-fat meals often cause us to fall into a midday slump. Actually, we want to get something done, but we feel like taking a nap...
The price difference to complete food also has a big impact here. MC Donalds can't compete with powdered meals from €1.87 to ready-to-drink meals from €3.29 (excluding all subscription and bulk discounts).
For people with food allergies who eat out, there is also the risk of cross-contamination and unlabeled allergens.
Why we might want to eat traditional meals after all
When we ask consumers about their motivations, we hear this most often:
"During other meals, I eat with my family or friends."
"I want to have something to chew on."
"I really enjoy cooking."
Social reasons are the most obvious. Eating together is a great opportunity to talk and socialize. Food connects. And is even expected in many environments (family, workplace, ...).
There are good reasons to chew, e.g. it helps with the digestion of food and with a completely liquid diet this can definitely be missed. Chewing gum helps toSaturo bars also solve the problem.
However, we are used to alternating textures and normal foods make this possible.
Then there is the positive experience of cooking yourself.
For yourself or for others.
Varied taste experiences are also a positive factor that can be achieved with different Saturo varieties only partially cover.
Normal food will probably never be completely replaced for most people. And that's okay.
Why it's a good idea, Saturo and traditional meals
For most people, a flexible diet is easier to stick to. You can follow your own needs and desires and listen to your body. Instead of using willpower to resist an inflexible diet until, at a weak moment, you reach for a creamy chocolate cake and completely throw away your balanced diet.
With a balanced diet, you can combine the best of both worlds.
The advantages of Saturo:
Save time, save money, eat a balanced diet.
And if you have the time and inclination:
Prepare a large menu to spoil yourself or your loved ones.
How can Complete Nutrition help you to live more sustainably? Our drinks provide exactly one small or large meal, so that nothing is left over. The shelf life is also (much) longer than that of conventional food, resulting in less food waste. Without preservatives, of course.
The challenges of a varied diet
While it took me a few meals to get used to the traditional foods, the mix of regular foods and liquid meals now works smoothly.
There is a danger of falling back into the former exclusively traditional way of eating step by step. A stocked fridge, leftovers, fresh vegetables and fruit should be consumed to reduce food waste. The best way to stay on track is to establish a routine and a commitment to complete food meals.
If you are counting calories, complete food is also a good idea. How many calories are in that plate of pasta in sauce? Difficult to estimate exactly.
Our tip: Track as well as possible and live with a little inaccuracy. It's better to have data that is a little fuzzy than no data at all.
